Network Appliance and Layered Technologies unveiled offerings this week aimed at making storage play nicely in grid computing environments. Utility hosting service provider Layered Technologies took the wraps off DynaVol, a grid-based scalable and flexible data management solution, and NetApp collaborated with Oracle on Direct NFS Client, which boosts Oracle Database 11g performance in IP-based environments. Layered CEO Michael Platner said DynaVol secures data off-site in the company's data centers, making it available and scalable on demand. All data is mirrored to a different server at a different location as a backup, with near real-time automated backup recovery.
